Quick First-Aid Emergency Dental Protocol

Emergency Situation Immediate At-Home Action Before Arriving
Knocked-Out Permanent Tooth (Avulsion) Handle only by the crown (do NOT touch root). Gently rinse in cold milk or saline if dirty. Reinsert into socket if possible, or store in a glass of cold whole milk. Come to Lumina within 60 minutes for highest reimplantation success.
Severe Throbbing Toothache Rinse with warm salt water. Gently floss to remove trapped food. Take ibuprofen (Advil) if medically permitted. Do NOT place aspirin directly against the gum tissue as it causes chemical burns. Call our emergency triage.
Broken or Chipped Tooth Save any broken fragments in milk. Rinse mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to the outside cheek to reduce swelling. Contact us immediately for resin bonding or a ceramic crown.
